The Moulder Center for Drug Discovery Research at Temple University School of Pharmacy is seeking an outstanding scientist to join an interdisciplinary team dedicated to the identification of novel therapeutic agents as a post-doctoral fellow.
The qualified candidate will have a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry. Preferred candidates will have 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience in drug discovery science. A successful candidate will be expected to independently design and synthesize small molecules targeting proteins as potential treatments for unmet medical needs. Critical skills include the ability to design and execute synthetic routes, solve challenging synthetic problems, run analytical and purification instruments, perform and extrapolate SAR analysis, and use modern drug design tools such as computational chemistry, in vitro physical/ADME profiling and in vivo pharmacokinetic data to optimize biological and drug-like properties of a lead series. Good communication and collaboration skills are a must. Familiarity with the Dotmatics software and Tripos molecular modeling programs would be advantageous. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Temple University School of Pharmacy (TUSP) invites applications for tenure-track positions at the Associate or Full Professor level in the areas of Structural Biology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology / Immunology and Oxidative Stress Research.
- Structural Biology: Applicants should possess a PhD degree in biophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, chemistry or computational biology with at least 5 years of relevant experience and have a strong history of scholarly activity, accomplishments in an area of Structural Biology. Expertise in applying various techniques to probe molecular structures such as X-ray crystallography or protein NMR, would be advantageous. The optimal candidate should also possess considerable expertise in the required supporting technologies such as macromolecule expression/purification and computational chemistry as well as interest and expertise in structure-based drug design.
- Oxidative Stress: Applicants should hold a PhD or MD degrees and have a proven track record in developing an outstanding, extramurally funded research program. Although the specific research area is open, we seek a candidate with a strong record of recent accomplishments in the area of mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and neuroscience/aging. Expertise in system biology strategies for pharmaceutical research is highly desired. The person in this position will be expected to maintain a strong independent research program, collaborate with others, teach, and mentor graduate and post-doctoral students.
In addition to the specific requirements for each possible position, the successful candidate will show evidence of continual ability to secure extramural funding and produce high quality peer reviewed publications. The person in this position will be expected to develop a strong independent research program, collaborate with others, teach professional Pharmacy students (PharmD degree candidates) and mentor graduate and post-doctoral students. All candidates must demonstrate strong commitment to both research and teaching.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Temple University School of Pharmacy houses the Moulder Center for Drug Discovery Research, the cGMP Facility, and the Jayne Haines Center for Pharmacogenomics and Drug Safety. Temple University has established a University-wide Drug Discovery Research Initiative based at the Moulder Center. The successful candidate will be a member of the Moulder Center for drug discovery which will provide opportunities for their participation in multidisciplinary research initiatives based at the center and with internal and external collaborators. Therefore, experience with translational research will be advantageous and candidates best suited to advance this University-wide initiative will be given preference.
